COUNTRY PROFILE
Morocco is located in Northern Africa and borders the North Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea, between Algeria and Western Sahara. The climate is considered to be Mediterranean becoming more extreme in the interior. Morocco gained its independence from France’s 1912 protectorate in 1956 and as of July 30, 1999 King Mohammed VI has reigned over the country’s 15 administrative regions. While Morocco is party to the Kyoto Protocol on Climate change their water supplies are still troubled by raw sewage contamination, siltation of reservoirs and oil pollution of coastal waters. Reducing poverty and providing jobs are key factors that will determine domestic security and development.
